The Great Blue Hole, Belize

A world-renowned natural wonder and iconic marine sinkhole, part of Belize’s UNESCO Barrier Reef.

About The Great Blue Hole

Belize’s Iconic Underwater Marvel

The Great Blue Hole is one of Belize’s most iconic natural wonders; a spectacular marine sinkhole set within Lighthouse Reef Atoll and a true bucket-list destination.

This massive circular formation measures approximately 318 meters (1,043 feet) across and plunges to a depth of about 124 meters (407 feet). Its striking contrast between the deep indigo center and the surrounding turquoise reef makes it so distinct that it can even be seen from space.

Formed during the last ice age, the Blue Hole began as a limestone cave system that later collapsed and flooded as sea levels rose. Today, visitors experience its beauty in two unforgettable ways: certified divers descend into its mysterious depths to explore stalactites and marine life, while others choose a breathtaking aerial tour, flying above the atoll for a panoramic view of this perfectly formed natural wonder.
